Companies unveil joint software solution that makes it easier for automakers to enhance the safety and cyber security of highly connected vehicles
Las Vegas, Nevada (CES 2017, North Hall Booth #6106), January 4, 2017 – Elektrobit (EB) — the pioneering provider of cutting-edge, embedded and connected technology solutions for the automotive industry — and PlaxidityX — the world’s largest independent automotive cyber security company — today announced a collaboration to advance the adoption of cyber security features in highly connected, autonomous cars.
Together, the companies will be offering a solution to make it easier for automakers to enhance the safety and cyber security of automotive electronic control units (ECUs), which are the embedded systems that control a vehicle’s core functions. The solution integrates the AUTOSAR-compliant PlaxidityX Intrusion Detection and Prevention Solution (IDPS), which detects and prevents cyberattacks in vehicles, and EB software and tools for developing secure, state-of-the-art ECUs, based on the AUTOSAR standard. The solution is being publicly demonstrated for the first time in EB’s booth (North Hall #6106) at CES 2017 in Las Vegas.
“Just like computer systems, today’s cars are networked with the internet and external services. As the level of networking increases, so does the risk of unauthorized access, which is significantly challenging the automotive electronics sector,” said Martin Schleicher, executive vice president strategy and partnerships. “By joining forces, PlaxidityX and EB are making it easier for car manufacturers to take a proactive approach to cyber security.”
Events over the past year have highlighted a growing concern regarding the vulnerability of connected vehicles to cyber attacks, and leading industry organizations have issued guidelines and best practices for automotive cyber security, all encouraging the automotive industry to be aggressive when it comes to cyber security. New standards—including ISO 27034-1 for the development of secure cloud applications and the planned expansion of the AUTOSAR standard with the definition of additional aspects of secure communication—also illustrate the increasing significance of cloud security in the industry.
“Collaborating with EB, a leading global supplier of AUTOSAR-compliant software and integration tools, will help the automotive industry embed cyber security into every layer of their software solutions,” said Yoni Heilbronn, vice president marketing at PlaxidityX. “The integrated Argus-Elektrobit solution will enable carmakers and their suppliers to adapt quickly to growing demand for cyber security solutions.”
EB has worked for over a decade with leading global automakers and Tier 1 suppliers to provide them with AUTOSAR-compliant embedded security solutions, which are currently on the road in millions of cars. Its EB tresos product line comprises software and tools that support the emerging AUTOSAR Adaptive platform, expected to be the foundation for highly automated vehicles from leading automakers.
